For Securitas Security Services USA, Inc., the world’s largest provider of security services, the ‘Media’ in Media Matrix doesn’t have to mean high-tech or ultra-modern. Although Media Matrix, a full-service business communications firm has produced a wide variety of video, electronic and interactive programs for Securitas USA over the years, they recently proved to be equally adept at meeting their additional needs through the traditional, long-established medium of print.

In 2003, Securitas USA decided to develop its U.S. Management Bulletin magazine to communicate with their management team throughout the United States. Its primary objective is to serve as an internal resource that can be used to share consistent information and will include topics on the company’s philosophy and goals, give updates on department news and programs, and will feature a question and answer forum.

In early 2004, Securitas USA chose Media Matrix to handle all aspects of publishing the U.S. Management Bulletin—concepts, design, layout, printing, and more— to be distributed to individual managers in almost 2,000 offices nationwide. The feature article, written by a Media Matrix writer, focused on the importance of the branch manager in assisting the company in reaching its goals and included interviews with nine managers across the U.S. Additional articles were submitted from within the ranks of Securitas. The Securitas photo library was a great source for photography, of which many images had been previously shot by Media Matrix’s staff photographer. The Media Matrix graphics team then assembled all elements into an interesting and cohesive magazine design. Over 75 photos of branch managers were incorporated into a unique montage for a memorable cover. Once the printing aspect of the project was complete, the last element was the individual mail fulfillment services, also provided by Media Matrix. “Our goal was to create an upscale magazine befitting of the management team,” says Media Matrix Vice President and Creative Director Jaclyn Kauffman. “We nurtured a flexible relationship with our client in order to help them achieve their communications goals. We were responsive throughout the creative process—from concept to final printed piece—in an effort to make the experience as effortless as possible.”

With this inaugural issue, Media Matrix has expanded its services to Securitas USA to include
the oldest ‘media’ of all, print.
