Another challenge, converting a US video signal (NTSC) to a different standard (PAL) was overcome as well. The entire NTSC broadcast was picked up by a Media Matrix satellite dish in Washington D.C, converted to PAL and transmitted back out for reception overseas. Total time delay for the entire process was one second. In addition, a separate audio channel was sent overseas via the satellite as an interpreter was sitting in Princeton, hearing the program live and translating the audio into French and German. This track was sent out to Europe where French and German speaking Covance employees were able to hear the entire program in their native language.
"We definitely had some logistical challenges in producing this event," said Olenski, "but thanks
to the cooperation of the Covance team around the world we had a great success."
The broadcasts were skillfully blended with video segments and visual support to create a global roster of attendees, enabling a dramatic and entertaining "roll call" from 35 worldwide sites. After presentations by Covance's CEO and COO-the staging and logistics for which were also handled flawlessly by Media Matrix-the worldwide attendees participated in an interactive Q&A followed by a celebratory toast. A professional broadcaster acted as emcee and kept the event flowing smoothly, creating a memorable occasion that celebrated both the past success and the future potential of the Covance organization. Thanks to the expertise and energy of Media Matrix, Covance was able to offer their attendees a shared experience that made the concept of "global organization" truly come alive for everyone.
